Everyone has two simultaneous experiences – our physical surroundings and our reverie. The physical environment seems large, but reverie expands, unexpectedly becoming larger. The focus of this work is in the simultaneity and counterpoint between these two states.
Becker takes a photograph in a commonplace/common place. Departing from that first incarnation, the process now becomes conceptual. She removes, highlights, abstracts, montages and collages to probe the subject of our ordinary, quotidian experience merging with the vastness and abstractness of our reverie. Printing is mostly on fine art paper and collages utilize mostly elements of the printed photos as well as asian papers, foil, and found objects. Images, often in the 2-3 foot range, also range from very small to four by five feet, determined by venue.
